- PTE is a completely computer-based test that assesses the speaking, writing, reading, and listening skills of an individual.
- The test is taken in a single, three-hour session.
- You need to take the test in an authorized Pearson Test Centre where you will be provided with a computer, a headset, and a microphone.
- The test is divided into three main parts:
Part 1: Speaking and Writing (54-67 minutes)
Part 2: Reading (29-30 minutes)
Part 3: Listening (30-43 minutes) - There are 20 different formats of questions that range from multiple choice types to single answers to interpreting information and essay writing.
- Since the test is meant to assess academic English that is used in day-to-day life, the content used in the test is often excerpts from lectures, and different accents like American, British, and other accents of native speakers are used in it.
- The Speaking and Writing part is further divided into sub-heads, these are Personal introduction, Read aloud, Repeat sentence, Describe image, Re-tell lecture, Answer the short question, Summarize written text, and Essay. The Essay part is allotted a total of 20 minutes.
- The Reading and Writing part is further divided into Fill in the Blanks, Multiple choice, Re-order paragraphs, Reading: Fill in the blanks, multiple-choice, and choose a single answer.
- The Listening part is further divided into Summarize spoken text, Multiple choice type, fill in the blanks, highlight correct summary, choose a single answer, select missing word, highlight an incorrect word and write from dictation.
